Climate of Nepal
The climate of any country depends upon its altitude and large body of water in that country. Talking about the climate of Nepal it can be broadly classified into six types:
Tropical Monsoon Climate
The climate found up to 500 meters from the sea level is called the tropical monsoon climate. The temperature is very hot in summer season. it reaches 44 degree centigrade in the month of May. This climatic zones has monsoon rain. Southern part of Nepal called Terai and inner Terai fall under this region. The average rainfall is above 200 centimeters during the summer. Monsoon climate moves from south to north. The precipitation is not equal in all places. The tropical monsoon climate is beneficial for agricultural farming in Nepal.
Sub-Tropical Monsoon Climate
This climate zone lies in between 500 to 1200 meters from the sea level. It is also between Mahabharat range in the north and Shivalik and Chure in the south. It has hot summer and warm winter. It has more rain in the east than in the west. Pokhara is in this climatic Zone. Paddy, wheat, maize, fruits and vegetables are commonly grow in this climatic zone.
Warm Temperate Monsoon Climate
This climate id found between 1200 to 2125 meters altitude from the sea level. it lies east to west in Mahabharat range. The climate is warm during summer and cold during winter. The maximum temperature is 33.7 degree centigrade during summer and 0.3 degree centigrade during winter. Kathmandu lies in this climatic zone.
Cold Temperate Climate
This type of climate is found in high altitude of Mahabharat range and lower part of Himalaya. It lies between 2125 to 3500 meter altitude. the average maximum temperature is 17 degree centigrade in summer and the minimum is 0 degree centigrade in winter.
Alpine Climate
This climate is found between 3500-4800 meters altitude. Similar climate found in Alps in Europe. Therefore, the temperature is 13 degree centigrade in summer and minimum 0 degree centigrade in winter. The precipitation of the rain is very low in this region.
Tundra Climate
The climate found above 4800 meters is called Tundra Climate. This is also called Artic Climate because this climate is found in polar region. The high mountains are covered with snow throughout the year. Therefore, we call such mountains as Himalaya. Sagarmatha (Mount Everest -8848 meters) is the highest peak of the world lies in this climatic zone.
